Description

UCLan possesses a dedicated workshop to support its motorsport programmes, catering for race cars, eco cars and a superbike race team.

Motorsports (cars)

This main workshop allows UCLan to compete in the following events; Formula Ford, Formula Student and the Shell Mileage Marathon. The teams have met with considerable success. The Formula Ford team for example has achieved the following results:

  • Championship Winners 2012, 2010
  • Festival Winners 2006, 2002
  • Numerous individual race wins and podiums. The most recent championship positions are 2nd in 2013, 3rd in 2014, 3rd in 2015

The Formula Student team have broken the mould of tubular steel chassis cars by building a monocoque carbon fibre car.

Motorsports (ECO Vehicles)

The Shell Eco Marathon is a worldwide competition run by Shell for students to design, make and compete to find the most fuel efficient vehicle in the world. The uclan team made up of 1st and 2nd year Engineering undergraduates have designed and built a petrol prototype car which can achieve over 1300 miles per gallon and are currently manufacturing an electric powered urban concept car. The car was built in-house using UCLan’s impressive modern manufacturing workshops.

Both cars will compete this year in 2016 in London against 200 other UK and European Universities, the teams aim is to improve on their top 20 position in the competition.

The university also competes in the Greenpower Challenge; a national competition for teams from industry and education. It’s a battery electric car designed and manufactured at the university. The car competes in one hour endurance races where it must use it’s battery power efficiently to travel the furthest distance. The car has twice won the ‘Best Engineered Car’ as voted by judges from industry.

Motorsports (superbike)

This bike is currently being race prepared.
