AVAILABILITY Workshop hours are 9:30 to 12:30 & 13:30 to 16:30 Mon-Fri. Where possible & with prior arrangement technical staff will work flexibly during the working day to accommodate specific support requirements which do not fit into the specific times above.
RESTRICTIONS There is a prerequisite to attend a technical induction prior to permission being granted to use these resources.

UCLan boasts a large bespoke darkroom suite within Victoria building.

The area has monochrome film processing facilities including a deep tank processing unit and film & print drying machines.

Within the two monochrome printing darkrooms enlargers are located in interconnecting safe lit bays with darkroom sinks for wet (dish) print processing.

A separate darkroom is specifically reserved for alternative processes where historic and traditional technologies can embrace digital technologies to produce unique work.

A third monochrome darkroom is reserved for advanced users, kitted out in an exact style with the addition of floor standing enlargers for sheet film.

Equipment Available

  • 18 Durst Enlargers with timers and masking frames for 35mm and 120 roll film.
  • 2 DeVere floor standing enlarger for sheet films.
  • Paterson film processing tanks
  • Deep tank film processing system
  • Film dryers
  • Ilford print dryer
  • Print drying racks for fibre based papers
  • Darkroom accessories include: Print trays (various sizes), measuring cylinders, thermometers, masking frames, contact print frames, enlarger timers, focus scopes, printing MG filters.
